A U.S. judge has ruled that Tesla must confront a class action lawsuit in California, where drivers allege the company misled consumers about the capabilities of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) package. The plaintiffs argue Tesla lacked the necessary sensors for full autonomy and failed to demonstrate a successful long-distance autonomous drive.
Judge Rita Lin highlighted Tesla's direct-to-consumer marketing strategy, including website content, blog posts, earnings calls, and Elon Musk's 2016 press conference, as influential in shaping buyer perceptions. The certified class includes individuals who purchased Tesla vehicles between October 2016 and August 2024.
